| Name: | John Riley |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | Mar 17 |
| Location: | Boston, Massachusetts, United States |
The eldest of triplets (one twin brother, one fraternal sister), John Riley was born in Dublin and moved to Boston at the age of four. Though he grew up in a loving home, had parents with a healthy relationship, and a strong bond with his siblings, early on it was clear that John was...different.
After numerous behavioral problems resulted in a psych evaluation and an IQ test, his parents thought their problems were solved when his IQ came back worlds above normal. John was promptly given the option to skip from second grade to third...and then fourth...and then fifth. Only when he reached sixth grade did the behavioral problems begin to wane in light of grades that finally began to suffer, signs of struggle showing for the now eight year old boy. For a time, he seemed almost normal as he brought home good grades, the occasional friend from school, and even began doing his chores on a regular basis.
When he graduated and moved onto high school two years ahead of his siblings, however, the problems began again...only worse: fighting, disruptive behavior in class, even things like vandalism and theft. Though his issues were kept away from any sort of legal action, further evaluation provided a diagnosis by the standards of the medical profession: sociopathic and codependent, relying primarily on his siblings and a meager sampling of children he could somewhat relate to in order to build the foundation for his behavior. Without them, John couldn't figure out how to relate to people...and so he did as he pleased.
Disdaining and enduring therapy solely to please his sister, John's saving grace came from a therapist who directed him towards a career in police work when he was preparing to enter college at the age of sixteen. Though John didn't apply to the police academy, he began to focus his studies in the criminal justice and forensic fields. Struggling with his prerequisites, he devoured every available course on the judicial system and forensic science. Earning the nickname Sherlock among his peers (one he loathed and despised), John graduated with honors and went on to open an investigative firm after graduation at his sister's urging.
Currently, Shamrock Investigations is staffed by Jane and Jacob "Jock" Riley, and serves primarily as a self-sustaining means to keep their brother out of trouble. Retained by several well known law firms and routinely aiding the local police, John trusts his siblings to bring him cases that will engage and entertain his superior intellect...while his siblings continue to pray that one day, their brother might make some progress in learning to function on his own and lead a normal life.
Before his appetites take a turn for the worst.
